Scoped Carbine Essentials

Comprehensive 4-part Webinar Series to Kickstart Your Journey into the Scoped Carbine Platform.

CARBINE SHOOTERS

Stretch your legs and get some more distance from your carbine!
Maybe you’re looking to dip your toes in the water of precision shooting?
You can get some impressive performance from your carbine with a little bit of knowledge. That’s exactly why we created this mini-masterclass.

Using a carbine as an intermediate range precision rifle isn’t uncommon, especially once you realize the potential it’s got. All you need to do is understand some core concepts, and you’ll be able to immediately reap the benefits of being able to accurately hit targets at greater distances than you thought possible.

Would you believe me if I told you…
Your rifle already has the capability of hitting targets with accuracy at distances of up to 600 yards.

You could follow this short webinar series to give you the ability to hit those targets with intention, every time.

Designing the Rifle For YOU

How many times have you logged into YouTube or Instagram and seen yet another “RECCE” build, and they say “this is ideal because it allows me to do all these crazy things that I’m never going to do”...well, maybe they don't say it verbatim like that, but that's how I interpret it. Call me salty, but I am beyond tired of range theatrics and ridiculous builds with practically 4 different aiming solutions because of (insert dumb reason here), and you need a U-Haul to carry your loadout to combat.

Now, if there's a legitimate purpose and reason to their setups, then no harm, no foul. Unfortunately, most of these people are setting up a rifle in a way that they saw some guntuber setting theirs up but do not truly understand why. A topic that comes to mind here is choosing a zero, but we’ll save that for our Week 4 Topic.

Here, we will have a healthy discussion on OPTIONS. Yes, options. Not me telling you that you need to do it this way. Are there fundamental techniques and practices that are in place? Sure, we don’t have to reinvent the wheel here, but the point is to figure out what is best for YOU and YOUR purposes. Understanding your why, as we call it. We want to make sure that every single part that goes into your rifle is for a purpose, not for the 'gram.

That's what this month's series is about—to give you authentic discussions and have honest conversations about topics, as well as bring you insight to guide you to making a better decision based on your needs.

Here are some things we will discuss in this webinar:

  • Purpose
Figuring out your why. This will determine what you purchase and how to set up your rifle.
  • Cycle of Operation
How an AR works. The more you understand how an AR works, the better you will be able to diagnose any issues that may arise as well as “tune” the rifle best for you.
  • Circle of Components
The main components of the rifle and some options you have with each (goes back to purpose).

Optic Considerations

Other than barrel lengths, this is easily the most heavily debated topic in the Scoped Carbine world. One of the biggest determinations for this will be your purpose and what you define as a Scoped Carbine. For many, it’s just a red dot, or even two red dots. Some people just want a magnifier to engage a little further with their dot. Then you see prisms to LPVOs to traditional riflescopes. There are so many different routes you can take. Here we will hit the main topics of these and go over the pros and cons of all of them, as well as talk about different mounting options.

Red Dots/Holographics

Can you just get away with running a red dot? Maybe. What do you intend on using the rifle for?

Two Red Dots

I’m sure you have seen rifles with what appears to be two primary sighting systems and are curious as to why this is a thing. Not to worry, we will be covering this as well.

Prisms

What are Prism optics? What's their benefit? We got you covered here, too.

Dot and Magnifier

Huge topic here for people. We will cover why you may want a magnifier instead of an LPVO… or maybe you don't want one.

Low Power Variable Optic

Probably what most of you are interested in discussing. We will cover the pros and cons of the venerable LPVO and help you decide what might be right for you.

Traditional Rifle Scopes

I’m sure this is a huge topic for you guys as well. Rifle scopes in that mid-range of magnification like the Leupold 3.6-18. You may have heard the term MPVO (mid power variable optic). We don’t call it that, but if you’ve heard that term, this is what they’re referring to.

Clearly, there's a lot to talk about. With so many options, it’s no wonder it can be a daunting task. After this webinar, you will have a better understanding of what your options are so you can be better equipped to make a decision that best suits your needs. We hope to see you there!

Running the Carbine

So, we learned more about the AR platform. We learned more about the components that go into them and picked our parts based on our specific needs. We learned about optics and determined what would be ideal for our purpose. So now what? Well, we have to physically set the rifle up to us, of course! While this webinar will not cover how to physically build the AR15 from start to finish, it will cover setting up your length of pull and establishing proper eye relief.

Length of Pull

Defined as the distance from the trigger to the butt stock. This can vary depending on gear you’re wearing. Some of you may be slick, while others are rocking chest rigs or even plate carriers. We will cover ideal stock placement and considerations with gear.

Eye Relief

Defined as the distance your eye has to be from the optic to obtain a perfect sight picture. This will vary depending on the optic or optics you chose to go with, but not to worry, we will cover it.

Proper Shooting Mechanics

There are many ways to skin a cat, and we are not going to sit here and cover every possible method that every instructor covers. The goal is to have good recoil management to return the sight alignment to its originating spot to allow fast follow-up shots and keep the rifle running as flat as possible. We will discuss how we like to do it and some considerations. This topic will also include sling placement.

What else will we cover here? It’s important to cover methods to keep the gun up, so we will be discussing different reloading techniques as well as covering different malfunctions you may experience. The last thing we want is for you to take all this time to assemble your rifle and then not know how to clear common malfunctions or reload the rifle. So, we got you covered there!

Choosing a Zero/Max Point Blank

You need to run a 50-yard zero for your dots because (insert some SOCOM unit) is running that!

What about my mechanical offset?

Huh? That doesn't matter because (insert another SOCOM unit) does it this way!

How many of you have seen a conversation similar to this on the Gram?

Are you as tired as we are of people regurgitating information that they don’t know has any validity but say it with complete confidence? If so, this webinar might be right for you. We’ve all heard of the 25, 36, 50, and 100-yard zeroes, but what's right for you? You’ll know by the end of the webinar. We want you guys to have your ballistic solvers and rulers ready for this one because we are going to crunch the numbers together and see what's up.

We will cover all the popular zeroes out there and where they came about, as well as the pros and cons of them. In addition, we will also be covering max point blank since this is really what those zeroes are all about. To expand on that, we will cover how to choose an optimal point blank zero, mainly for those of you with reticles and target turrets, but this can still apply even to red dots.

Reticles! Of course, we will be discussing types of reticles to include BDC (Bullet Drop Compensated) Reticles and even how to calibrate them to YOUR gun.

You guys don't want to miss this one. We will be crushing myths and crunching numbers, and now if someone asks you what zero you’re running, you can confidently answer them without your response being “...cuz SOCOM does.”

See you inside!
